Sands Typeface

Sands is a display typeface designed with the goal of combining traditional Roman letterforms and ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics according to the closest phoenetic translations between the two (i.e. the ‘foot’ glyph corresponds to the ‘b’ sound).

The letterforms were created in illustrator and then transferred to Glyphs to create three versions of ‘Sands’ as a working typeface. I also created promotional posters and a catalog. Taking from the structure of the original hieroglyphs, the typeface doesn’t have any punctuation marks and is not ideal for setting paragraphs. One day you might be able to download it.
